Rifugio Gianetti, at the foot of the Pizzo Badile

Hard guided hike in Val Masino, from Bagni di Masino up Val Porcellizzo to Rifugio Gianetti (2,534 m) at the foot of Pizzo Badile and Pizzo Cengalo. 1,360 m of ascent through larch woods and granite boulder fields; summer and autumn.

A demanding and rewarding hike in Val Porcellizzo, deep in the heart of the Masino granite kingdom. From the historic spa of Bagni di Masino (1,172 m) we follow a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through larch forests and across granite boulder fields, with the surrounding peaks gradually revealing themselves as we gain altitude. After about three hours of climbing, we reach Rifugio Gianetti (2,534 m), set on a rocky shoulder at the foot of the Pizzo Badile (3,308 m), one of the most legendary granite walls in the Alps, a mythical destination for climbers from all over the world. Lunch stop at the rifugio, with time to enjoy the view of the Badile, the Cengalo and the wild high-mountain landscape all around. The descent follows the same trail back down to Bagni di Masino.

    Who's it for

This hike is for fit and experienced hikers, comfortable with long days in the mountains. The trail is well-marked and not technical, but it gains over 1,300 m of elevation and requires around 8 hours of total walking time, with some rocky and uneven sections. Sturdy hiking boots and proper outdoor clothing are essential.
