A balcony over Val di Mello
Moderate guided hike in Val di Mello, the "Italian Yosemite", climbing from San Martino through larch and beech woods to the alpine pastures of Casera Pioda, a panoramic balcony over the granite walls. Spring to autumn.
A scenic hike in Val di Mello, often called the "Italian Yosemite" for its dramatic granite walls and wild landscapes. From the village of San Martino (925 m) we follow a well-marked trail that climbs steadily through larch and beech woods, with the towering granite cliffs of the valley rising on both sides.
As we gain altitude, the forest opens up to reveal wide alpine pastures and the summer huts of Casera Pioda (around 1,500 m), set on a panoramic balcony overlooking the entire Val di Mello below.
The descent follows the same trail back down to San Martino.
Who's it for
This hike is suitable for anyone in reasonably good physical condition, with some previous experience on mountain trails. No technical skills are required, but you should be comfortable walking uphill for around 3 hours, on a path that climbs steadily through the woods. Sturdy hiking boots and proper outdoor clothing are essential.
